The Book of Valkyries is complete and headed to print, with a revised Skuld illustration and a fate focused profile built for high level play.

Skuld’s place in the Book of Valkyries gives the finished volume a striking figure to close on: a seer who can read the threads surrounding every creature, then carry fate’s patterns into battle. The book’s creator says the final drawing is complete, the revised depiction of Skuld is finished, and the work is now headed to the printer.

The new illustration accompanies a full game profile for Skuld, identified as an Aesir demi-goddess and a medium humanoid of lawful neutral alignment. Her statistics point to a formidable character for a high powered Old School Renaissance game: she has 92 hit points, Armor Class 20, and 12 Hit Dice. Her listed experience value is 4,200, and her treasure type is G.
A seer built to shape a fight
Skuld’s defining trait is Sight of Skuld. She perceives the threads of fate around all creatures, so ordinary surprise does not catch her off guard. She also acts in the first round of combat, except when another divine being is involved; against one of those opponents, she rolls initiative normally. That exception gives the ability a clear limit and makes divine rivals feel distinct at the table.
Her other abilities turn foresight into help her companions can use. With Rune of Foresight, Skuld can aid an ally within 30 feet twice per day. The chosen ally gains a +2 bonus to attack rolls and saving throws for two rounds. That short duration makes the gift a timely intervention rather than a lasting enhancement: a referee can use it to frame a crucial exchange, while a player facing Skuld has reason to consider how quickly the advantage might pass.
Seer of the Valkyries extends her influence to nearby allies. Other Valkyries within 60 feet receive +1 to attack rolls and morale while Skuld is present. The feature makes her presence matter to a group, not just to her own actions. In a scene with several Valkyries, her position becomes part of the encounter’s tactics: keeping her close supports the group, while changing the distance between her and her companions can affect their performance.
Protection, weapons and numbers
Skuld’s Skuldborg — Shield of Destiny gives its bearer a way to blunt a successful attack. After an attack roll succeeds, the bearer can force the attacker to roll again and use the worse result. The timing is easy to present at the table: first establish that the attack would hit, then decide whether to invoke the shield’s power, and finally compare the new roll with the original. The entry describes the reroll effect but does not give a daily limit, so referees should use the book’s full rules when adjudicating repeated uses.
Her equipment and combat lines support both close defense and direct offense. Skuld wears runic mail and a cloak of fate, which together are listed as the source of her Armor Class 20. She attacks with a spear for 1d8+4 damage or a staff for 1d6+3. Her movement is 120 feet, shown as 40 feet in parentheses, with flying movement of 180 feet, or 60 feet in parentheses. The profile also lists a morale score of 11 and the saving throw line D3 W4 P4 B5 S7 (F12).
Her ability scores underline the seer’s role. Wisdom is her highest score at 26, with a listed modifier of +8; Intelligence is 19/+4 and Charisma 22/+5. Dexterity 18/+3 supports her mobility, while Strength 14/+1 and Constitution 17/+2 give her solid physical capabilities. Those figures make the profile read as a divine figure whose strongest impact comes from awareness and guidance, even though she can hold her own in a fight.
Between fate and the fallen
The accompanying description places Skuld in two mythic roles at once. She is a Norn and a Valkyrie, an unusual position between those who weave fate and those who choose the slain. Alongside Urðr, associated with what has been, and Verðandi, associated with what is becoming, Skuld belongs to the triad of Norns said to determine the destinies of gods and mortals. Her name is glossed as “debt, obligation, that which is to be.”
That dual identity gives a referee a useful way to introduce her. Skuld can appear as a reader of destiny, but the profile also gives her a practical place in a battlefield encounter, where her foresight bolsters Valkyries and protects an ally. The tension between knowing what is coming and taking part in the conflict is already present in her description; a game master can build a scene around that tension without needing to explain every thread of fate in advance.
The finished book now has its final drawing and a complete Skuld entry ready for print. For groups using the profile, her strongest table presence will likely come from making her abilities visible: show her reacting before an ambush lands, have her shield turn a sure hit into a poorer roll, and let nearby Valkyries move with confidence under her guidance. That makes her role as seer and battlefield companion clear through play.
