After a packed June and a household illness, TardisCaptain is recovering and preparing new FASA, gaming and geek culture posts.

A July Reset for TardisCaptain: Gaming Projects and Geek Posts Ahead
How I feel right now.

June 2022 left TardisCaptain with a short list of new posts and a much longer list of unfinished plans. The month brought concerts, travel, time away from the computer and, at the end, an illness that spread through the household. The site still had regular visits, though, and July offers a chance to return to the games and geek culture the writer wants to cover.

A busy month away from the keyboard

The June posts covered Star Trek e-book deals and a Shadowrun character sheet. After those, the site mostly published automated entries tied to the daily Star Trek quotes account the writer runs. That kept something appearing on the blog, but it wasn’t the mix of original posts the writer had hoped to publish.

The reason was less a lack of ideas than a crowded schedule. Several weekends involved trips out of town, and after work there were days when stepping away from the computer felt necessary. That kind of downtime can be hard to turn into writing time, even when a notebook of potential topics is waiting. June’s unfinished drafts are a reminder that enjoying a subject and finding the hours to write about it are separate challenges.

Concerts, comics and a stack of drafts

Concerts were one bright spot in the month. The writer saw “Weird Al” Yankovic and has started a post about the show, with photos expected in the photo album. There’s also a draft about acquiring their first NFTs—a turn of events they admit came as a surprise. Both pieces are still to come, so there’s a little backlog of personal posts ready to take shape alongside the gaming coverage.

Time away also meant missing a lot of Svengoolie. The writer could catch up with Creature Features episodes on YouTube, which made it easier to return to the show later. Comics offered another way to spend some quieter hours. The writer also watched movies they had missed and enjoyed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Orville. Those interests sit alongside the tabletop focus of the site, and the June recap gives readers a sense of what else has been filling the writer’s days.

There were new game books, too, as well as several finds in the garage that may turn into future posts. No details are given yet, but both hints point toward material that could feed into the site’s gaming and collecting interests. For now, they remain on the list of things to revisit when there’s room to write about them properly.

Illness interrupts the month

The hardest stretch came near the end of June, when the household got sick with the bug the writer refers to without naming. The illness cost them two concerts, including a Howard Jones show they particularly wanted to attend, and took away much of their remaining free time. It’s a sharp end to a month that had already been full of trips and competing plans.

The household is recovering, and the writer credits vaccines as part of getting through the illness. That recovery makes the start of July feel less like a dramatic relaunch and more like a practical chance to regain some energy. The missed shows still sting, especially the one they were most looking forward to, but the immediate focus is getting back to normal routines.

More tabletop writing is taking shape

The next stretch should bring more gaming and geek articles. A large FASA project is in development, and the writer is eager to share it. They’re also considering recurring article formats that could build over time. The intended series won’t be a marathon on the scale of the Character Creation Challenge, but each will unfold across multiple posts.

Another project is a fantasy tabletop story that still needs to move from the writer’s head onto paper. The ideas have been gathering, but turning them into something playable takes time: a useful next step is to organize those thoughts into the material needed to run a session. The source doesn’t give details about the setting or rules, so readers will have to wait to see what form it takes.

For a tabletop audience, the FASA work and upcoming series are the clearest signs of what’s ahead. The writer hasn’t shared a schedule or a first-post date, so the near-term picture is about direction rather than a firm calendar. Still, the promised projects suggest a return to sustained game coverage after a month when everyday commitments took the lead.

The writer can see that readers continued visiting the site during the quieter period and thanks them for sticking around. With recovery underway, drafts waiting and new gaming ideas taking shape, July’s most concrete promise is a renewed effort to publish. The next posts will show which project makes it from notes to the page first.
